Here’s a roundup of affordable and practical gifts for new homeowners they will love. And most of these housewarming gifts cost under $100! [There are a few awesome ones over $100 I couldn’t resist…]
These practical gifts for new homeowners are guaranteed NOT to end up re-gifted or thrown in a donation pile!

1. Customized Welcome Mat
A fresh welcome mat pulls double duty for a new homeowner. Not only is it a practical way to minimize dirt from entering their home, it’s also a stylish way to increase curb appeal and create a warm first impression to welcome to visitors.
One of my favorites is this personalized mat, made in the USA by family-owned company EnCoir Designs.
2. Fire Extinguisher
Did you know that there are about 1,000 house fires per day in the United States, resulting in 7 deaths per day? And old houses may even be more vulnerable.
Fire extinguishers can be viewed as an uber-practical gift, (we bought this one based on reviews) BUT you can make it fancy with one of these from Safe-T (Image credit: Safe-T).
3. Emergency Binder
Here’s a practical gift for new homeowners they hopefully won’t need anytime soon BUT will be invaluable in case of emergency.
Help new homeowners protect their new asset and all its belongings with a Home and Family Emergency Binder in case the unspeakable like fire or theft happens.
This binder, with over 90 pages of simple, printable worksheets to organize everything your family may need to know, will bring peace of mind. (it has for my family!) (Image credit: Smart Money Mamas)
4. Safety/Survival Kit
Sticking with the safety theme, here’s another gift they hopefully won’t need anytime soon, but will be grateful if they ever need.
Redflora creates the expert-approved emergency kits pictured here for all types of natural disasters. (I learned about these kits from the Home School’d podcast).
These survival kits have everything a new homeowners needs. American Red Cross and Amazon also have a variety of emergency kits. (Image credit: Reflora)
5. Home Inventory Program
Yet another way to help protect a new homeowner’s assets is with a home inventory software program. (Clearly I’m a safety gal….)
A home inventory is ideal to document personal belongings in case a home is ever damaged or destroyed (although there are 11 other reasons).
Personally I use HomeZada. There is a free version, but the paid version has an impressive amount of bells and whistles to track home maintenance and remodels. (Image credit: HomeZada)
OK – no more “safety gifts”. (But doesn’t safety mean you really care???)
6. ShopVac
Messes happen. Especially big messes when moving in and doing home improvement projects. And sometimes a regular vacuum just doesn’t cut it.
A ShopVac like this one from Craftsman can help clean up all those messes in a jiffy. From my perspective, it was one of the most practical housewarming gifts we received.
7. Tools/ Tool Kit
Undoubtedly a new homeowner is going to run into some home improvement projects. Give them a full set of tools to start them on their DIY way like this Black + Decker tool set. Or perhaps an all-in-one tool like a Leatherman that would make MacGyver jealous.
8. Backyard Party Supplies
New homeowners with a backyard? Help them spice up the deck or backyard so that it begs for some outdoor BBQs and parties. Options?
Get the party started with some yard games, or cool everyone down with a personalized cooler or drink tub from Chilled Designs on Etsy. (Image credit: Chilled Designs)
9. Mosquito Repeller
If these new homeowners have upgraded to a bigger backyard and planning some parties, you might want to ensure the summer parties go smoothly and banish the bloodsuckers with the Radius mosquito repellent.
Radius was designed by a team of entomologists, researchers, and outdoor enthusiasts with 100+ years of combined experience fighting mosquitoes. Compact, rechargeable, and easy-to-use, Radius provides a 15-foot zone of advanced mosquito protection without the use of smelly sprays and unsafe candles.
10. Garden Tools
Keeping with the outdoor theme, how about a practical gift for a new homeowner who’s a budding gardener? Lots of ideas here, ranging from birdhouses, rain barrels, garden carts, to this nice garden tool and caddy set.
If the homeowners are complete gardening newbies, check the local Facebook Garden Club for a recommendation for a landscape consultation. (My husband gifted me a consult and it was the sweetest gift!)
11. Gift Card
What could any new homeowner need? Gift cards. If you’re a homeowner then you’ve experienced those frequent trips to the home improvement store, or organization shop. Or a gift card to the local garden center for seeds and flowers come planting time.
Or if unsure of what’s close to them, well, there’s always Amazon.
12. Broom/ Cleaning Sets
Unless it’s a completely new build, most houses need a good scrubbing before moving in. Give the practical gift for new homeowners of new cleaning supplies.
Cleaning isn’t fun but at least they have a gift basket (or caddy) filled with new cleaning supplies to make it a smidge more fun. Whether it be a new dust pan and broom, fancy spin mop, or a bucket of fresh-smelling cleaners.
123. Step Stool/ Ladder
Help them get to those hard-to-reach areas with a stepstool like this popular one on Amazon. This practical gift for new homeowners will stop them from perching dangerously on a chair or counter while trying to paint the ceiling or replace lightbulbs.
14. Custom Return Address Stamp
Here’s a stylish yet practical gift for new homeowners to celebrate their adventure in a new home.
We received a custom return address stamp like this one from our mortgage broker when we moved into our new house 10 years ago. And we STILL use it to address all our holiday cards!
15. Key Holder & Mail Holder
Stop the “where’s my keys?” and “where’s the mail” questions with this combined key and mail holder from Straga Furniture on Etsy.
Speaking of keys…. don’t forget a key hider or padlock for them to stash an extra set of keys. Because at some point, they will need a friend to pop into their home while on vacation, or someone is going to mis-place their keys…. (I speak from experience…) (Image credit: Straga Furniture)
15. Personalized Wood Coasters
Help those new homeowners protect their new wood tables with these beautiful personalized wood coasters from MurWoodHome on Etsy.
This store has a TON of awesome, unique housewarming gifts, all personalized, including key holders, wall art and more!
16. Fireproof and Waterproof Safe
Ok, ok, one more “safety” idea for practical gifts for new homeowners. Consider a fire- and water-proof safe like the one pictured here with either a key or padlock. Your family or friends can securely store essential and irreplaceable documents, small valuables, DVDs, and USBs.
We have one that my father-in-law bought us for Christmas. Honestly, I probably never would have even thought to buy one. Yet, every time I use it I think of him and appreciate his thoughtfulness.
17. New Home Planner
Help organize and inspire a new homeowner with a practical yet stunning home planner. This journal allow them to create mood boards, layout designs, budget trackers, contacts & quotes, to-do lists, and shopping lists for each room!
My Methodical Home Planner is made from vegan friendly leather, gold coil bind, gold corners, and gold foil writing. AND presented in a keep sake box – perfect for gift-giving!

Subscription options are 3-month, 6-month, or quarterly 12-month subscription.
19. Personalized Metal Signage
Help the new homeowners announce their arrival to the neighborhood and ease into conversation with their new neighbors with this durable weatherproof metal sign (although it’s may be so gorgeous they may want to enjoy it hanging inside!)
These signs, handcrafted in Michigan by Lakeshore Metal Decor, run in a variety of sizes (12-36 inch) and multiple colors. Available on Amazon and Etsy.
20. Cute Soap Dispenser
This cute hand and dish soap dispenser set will add charm, elegance and style to any kitchen, offered by BrighterBarns on Etsy.
Designed in the USA, this set, made from sturdy 304 grade stainless steel pumps, perfectly compliments any luxury kitchen decor, modern farmhouse decor, or minimalist decor.
21. Funky Plunger
Yeah, I know. A toilet plunger – not a terribly sexy gift. BUT…
Meet Staff the Plunger. It will make you smile even when, uh, when you need to use it. Staff comes in purple, orange, blue and green, and pairs well a matching toilet brush.
If a smiley face isn’t for you then check out this quirky fruit and vegetable toilet brush.
22. Planter & Sign
This combination planter and house address sign works double-duty to add curb appeal with home security with visible house numbers for all to see.
Planters are homemade in Austin, Texas by ModMettle, sized 20″W x 5″H x 4″D and available in 4 colors (rust, black, grey and brown). House numbers are 4″ H aluminum magnets in a variety of colors (brass, white, silver and black) to perfectly coordinate with most exteriors.
23. Wine & Charcuterie Caddy
This Wine & Charcuterie Table by EEHomeStyle on Etsy is perfect for a dinner for the new homeowners to toast this new home adventure as well as set out as a beautiful home decor centerpiece for entertaining.
The cheese server features a large tray that fits over the wine bottle to hold favorite charcuterie foods, with space for 2 wine glasses and 1 bottle of wine (including larger bottle sizes).
Personalization available.
