Description

If your home’s walls could talk, what stories would they tell? Would they tell you that your home was a stop on the Underground Railroad? Or the previous home of a local politician who did great things for your town. Or maybe a notorious criminal who did quite the opposite….

We all have a past, some more colorful than others. And that goes for houses as well.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jen Osterhout, homeowner and old house enthusiast, researched the history of 100+ commercial properties for property owners, potential buyers, and real estate developers in a past career as an environmental consultant.

To create a picture of a property’s past, she utilized a wide range of resources (ex. historical maps, online databases, interviews, property visual clues, etc.). Jen’s mission is to take these skills and help other US-based homeowners understand and navigate all of the online and in-person resources available to discover the history of their old house.
