You’ve just moved into your new home. The boxes are stacked high, you’re exhausted, and all you really want is a hot shower and a good night’s sleep. The last thing you want to do is dig through boxes searching for toilet paper or pajamas. That’s where the Moving Day Bedroom and Bathroom Essentials Checklist comes into play. These checklists (plus the Day 1 Kitchen Essentials Checklist) will carry you through that chaotic first night and morning.

Bathroom Essentials Checklist
Nothing feels better after a long day of moving than a shower and fresh towels. To make sure your immediate access to a usable new bathroom, gather these items:
Immediate Necessities
- Toilet paper — at least one roll per bathroom (buy extra so you don’t run out).
- Hand soap — a pump dispenser is more convenient than bar soap when you’re juggling boxes.
- Bath towels, hand towels, washcloths — pack at least one set per person.
Shower/Bath Setup
- Shower curtain with liner, hooks/rings, and rod (if not already installed).
- Bath mat or non-slip mat — safety first in an unfamiliar bathroom.
Personal Care Items
- Basic toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash or soap, deodorant.
- Glasses or contact lenses with solution (don’t pack these away with other items).
- Prescription medications (keep them with you during the move).
- Basic first aid supplies — bandaids, pain reliever, antiseptic.
Organization & Cleaning
- Small trash bin with liners.
- Plunger and toilet brush — better to have these before you need them!
- Bathroom cleaner — for a quick tidy-up before first use.
- Toilet bowl cleaner — since previous owners’ cleaning standards may vary.

Comfort & Safety (Optional)
- Air freshener or small scent option to make the space feel fresh.
- Nightlight for safe navigation in an unfamiliar layout.
- Shower caddy or organizer to keep toiletries accessible.
Bedroom Essentials Checklist
Once the boxes are shoved to the corners, your bedroom should be your calm, restful retreat. Here’s what to include:
Sleep Setup (Absolute Necessities)
- Mattress, bed frame (where applicable), and box spring or support.
- Bedsheets (fitted + flat) and pillowcases.
- Pillows — at least one per person, though two is usually more comfortable.
- Blanket or duvet — consider the season and your new home’s heating situation.
Clothing & Organization
- Pajamas or loungewear (pack these in your “first day” box).
- One to two changes of everyday clothing, including underwear and socks.
- Laundry basket or hamper — essential for managing clothes right away.
- Hangers for closet or storage — at least 10–15 to start.
Functional Items
- Alarm clock or device for wake-up (don’t rely solely on your phone in case it dies).
- Phone charger and extension cord — outlets might not be conveniently located.
- Basic lighting, like a table or floor lamp, if overhead lighting is inadequate.
- Window coverings — temporary blinds, curtains, or even sheets for privacy.
Optional (but Helpful)
- Nightstand or small side table (or even a cardboard box as a temporary solution).
- Bedroom trash can.
- Tissues — moving dust and stress can trigger allergies.
- Water bottle or glass for bedside hydration.
Final Tips for Packing Bedroom & Bathroom Day-One Kits
- Pack these boxes last so they’re the first you unload.
- Label clearly — “Bathroom Essentials” and “Bedroom Essentials” — with bright tape or marker.
- Keep medications and personal items with you in your purse, backpack, or car.
- Customize for your family — kids may need comfort items like stuffed animals or nightlights, while adults may want extra pillows or skincare products.
